Ban calls on global community to stand with Haiti on eve of 6th anniversary of earthquake

As the United Nations prepares to mark the sixth anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Haiti and pay tribute to the more than 200,000 victims who perished, including 102 UN personnel, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today called on the international community to “stand with Haiti” as it moves forward to rebuild.

Human rights experts from the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) today called on the United States Government to promptly close the Guantánamo Bay detention facility and end impunity for abuses in the so-called ‘global war on terror’ such as ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’ and extraordinary rendition.

Haiti: UN chief calls for delayed elections to be resolved as soon as possible

For the second time in two weeks United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has again voiced concern at political developments in Haiti over the ongoing electoral process, urging the authorities and all political actors to resolve outstanding issues as soon as possible.
