Ban appoints Spanish national as head of UN support mission in Libya

Ebola: UN health agency seeks to allay fears about air travel

The United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) today sought to allay fears amid reports that airlines are suspending flights over the Ebola outbreak by sending out a social media messages with assurances that “unlike infections like influenza and tuberculosis, Ebola is not airborne.”

DR Congo: UN envoy condemns murder of family in eastern town

A senior United Nations official today condemned the murder of six members of the same family in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and urged those living in the town of Mutarule to practice restraint to avoid further escalation.

Ebola: UN health agency says more than 1 million people affected by outbreak

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today convened a United Nations system-wide coordination meeting in response to the current Ebola outbreak in West Africa, which is now affecting more than 1 million people in the so-called “hot zone of disease transmission” on the borders of the three countries most impacted by the disease.
