The top United Nations official in Sudan said that the elections that got under way today for the governorship of the state of Southern Kordofan should lead to an all-inclusive government, and called for the holding of peaceful polls.

Uganda: UN rights chief deplores 'excessive' use of force by authorities

The United Nations human rights chief today urged Ugandan authorities to immediately halt the use of “excessive” force against opposition politicians and protesters, saying it was only fuelling the crisis in the African nation, where at least eight people have been killed and hundreds of others injured in recent weeks.
