UN chief of peace operations honours fallen Chadian ‘blue helmets’ serving in northern Mali

After 10 Chadian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations mission in Mali (MINUSMA) were killed in a terrorist attack on 20 January, the UN chief of peace operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, went to N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, to pay tribute to them on Monday in a ceremony organised by the Government.

The Guinean contingent of MINUSMA which is based in Kidal in the extreme north of Mali, ensures the security of the camp, conducts mine action activities and also ensures the safety of the civilian population.

Ten ‘blue helmets’ from the United Nations Stabilization Mission In Mali (MINUSMA) were killed on Sunday following a complex terrorist attack against the mission’s camp in Aguelhok, in the Kidal region, northern Mali.

After fleeing her home in Macina, a small village in central Mali, where she was due to be forced into marriage against her will, 16-year-old Fatouma took shelter with her brother.

Peacekeepers conduct civil-military activities to secure the circle of Koro, in Mali’s central Mopti region. Called FADEN 6, the project includes free medical consultations, sensitization and education sessions on social cohesion, human rights, justice, and distribution of goods to the community. 18 December 2018.

Deadly Mali attack to be investigated by UN rights experts

An attack on a village in central Mali earlier this week in which at least 37 civilians died, is to be investigated with the help of United Nations human rights experts, the UN stabilization mission in the country (MINUSMA), announced on Thursday.

Mali: UN Peacekeeping chief ‘extremely concerned’ over insecurity, regrets peace deal delays

After commending the “overall peaceful” climate in which the Malian elections were held in July, the United Nations peacekeeping chief said on Friday that he is “extremely concerned” over the increasing number of attacks by armed insurgents, against a backdrop of continued delays in implementing the 2015 peace agreement.
