As thousands of political leaders, advocates and private sector representatives from around the world are gathered in Katowice, Poland, for the COP24 conference, to define concrete guidelines for climate action, one person stands out: Ambassador Luis Alfonso de Alba.

In November, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, appointed him Special Envoy for the Climate Change Summit, set to take place at UN Headquarters in New York next September.

The Envoy’s role in Katowice and over the coming months will be to ensure that nations commit to take decisive and ambitious action for the well-being of our planet.

The stakes have never been this high, but despite the challenges, Mr. de Alba told UN News’s Yasmina Guerda - who sat down with him in Katowice - that he is confident we are moving in the right direction.
