Food and Agriculture Organization calls for urgent humanitarian action

Food and Agriculture Organization calls for urgent humanitarian action

Introduction:

Millions of women, children and men worldwide are at risk of acute hunger in countries affected by natural disasters and conflict.

Unfortunately, many of these crisis-affected countries are forgotten and being neglected by the international community and the humanitarian responses there face critical levels of underfunding for food and agriculture assistance.

It’s the case for example for Afghanistan, the Central African Republic and Myanmar, where the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has received less than a third of the required funds.

The UN agency is calling for urgent additional funding to be able to provide urgent food, seeds and life-saving agricultural support to 33 million people worldwide.

Roseanne Marchesich leads the Emergency Response and Resilience Team at FAO.

She told Charlotta Lomas where the needs are the most dire.
