Somalia Partnership Forum puts politics, security and the economy firmly on the agenda

Somalia Partnership Forum puts politics, security and the economy firmly on the agenda

Introduction:

Somali politics, security and the economy, will all be on the agenda next week at an international meeting in Brussels where the Somali Government and its partners will be looking for ways to enhance peace and development across the Horn of Africa country.

Ahead of the Somalia Partnership Forum, UN News sat down with Lisa Filipetto, who heads up the UN Support Office in Somalia, UNSOS, and was at UN Headquarters in New York, en-route to Belgium.

The office she runs supports the 21,000 African Union troops in Somalia, who are part of the AU Mission, AMISOM, as well as the Somali national army and police, in operations where they fight alongside AU forces.

In addition to UNSOS, the UN presence in Somalia includes a political office and the UN agencies on the ground.

Ms. Filipetto began by telling Paulina Greer about the UN’s work in Somalia, and what life is like for ordinary citizens there.
