Global fishing trade shows net increase which world can manage sustainably, says FAO

Introduction:

Around one in three fish stocks is unsustainably netted, representing a “huge challenge” to all countries on the planet, UN food experts said on Monday.

In a new report from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the data indicates that on average today, people eat more than 20 kilogrammes of fish per year, more than double the amount consumed in 1961.

In an interview with UN News, Audun Lem, Deputy Director of the agency’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy and Resources Division, tells Daniel Johnson about some of the many policies that have already been implemented to protect more than 500 marine species that are monitored worldwide.
