Blue helmets provide conditions for forging peace: former UN military adviser

Introduction:

For the past seven decades, there has been one proven effective tool to support countries emerging from conflict: “the men and women in blue berets and helmets” who serve with the United Nations.

That’s according to Major General Tim Ford of Australia, paying tribute to UN peacekeepers.

Major General Ford has held several high-level posts in UN Peacekeeping, including Head of Mission of the UN Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in the Middle East and Chief Military Adviser at UN Headquarters in New York.

He sat down with Julia Dean of the UN Information Centre in Canberra, Australia, to look back at UN Peacekeeping’s 70 years of service and sacrifice.
