‘There is no one-state solution’ to end conflict: former Israeli minister

‘There is no one-state solution’ to end conflict: former Israeli minister

INTRODUCTION

Palestine and Israel cannot “wait for others” to finally seal an historic peace deal that delivers a two-state solution with both countries living side by side, a veteran Israeli negotiator and former minister said on Thursday.

Yossi Beilin, who held ministerial posts in several Labour governments during the 1990s, when he was also a key negotiator for the Oslo Peace Accords, was at the UN this week to take part in a two-day Forum on the Question of Palestine.

He criticized Israel’s lack of restraint in repelling demonstrators along the Gaza border on Monday, but accused the leadership of Hamas of egging on demonstrators to risk their lives.

After the event reflecting on the Palestinian expulsion in 1948 during the war with Israel that led to the Jewish State’s foundation, Matt Wells asked Mr. Beilin for his historical perspective on “Al Nakba”, as Palestinians refer to it, or the catastrophe.
