Cyclone, violence threaten more than 700,000 Rohingya children: UNICEF

Intro:

The approaching cyclone season together with ongoing threats of violence loom over hundreds of thousands of Rohingya children in Myanmar and Bangladesh, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has warned.

The agency is sounding the alarm over the situation affecting more than 720,000 youngsters, describing it as “a crisis without a quick fix.”

It has been six months since violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state forced scores of minority Muslim Rohingya to flee to Bangladesh.

The refugees, roughly 534,000 of them children, are living in what UNICEF says are “fragile and unsanitary camps.”

Meanwhile, an estimated 185,000 of their counterparts remain in Myanmar, fearful of the horrors which forced their families and neighbours to cross the border.
