UN Singers celebrate 70, in village that welcomes the world

20 July 2017

The United Nations Singers celebrate their 70th anniversary with a special concert in New York on Friday.

Just a few weeks ago, the choral group - formally known as the UN Staff Recreation Council Singers – took a message of peace from the UN Secretary-General to an international choir festival in the heart of Germany.

The Harmonie Festival in the small town of Lindenholzhausen, takes place every six years, drawing dozens of singers and performers from across the globe.

It marks a huge collective effort on the part of the local community, which this year included Syrian refugees, who have made the town their home.

Producer Matt Wells was part of the UN Singers group, and sent us this report.
