One mother in the Central African Republic (CAR) has told the newly-appointed UN Humanitarian Coordinator there of her one simple hope that “we don’t want to cry anymore.”

Najat Rochdi, who is also deputy head of the UN Stabilization Mission in CAR (MINUSCA), says that half the population now needs assistance and the country is in danger of “sacrificing a whole generation of children” to conflict.

Clashes between armed groups divided along sectarian lines, plunged the country of 4.5 million people into civil conflict in 2013.

A group of aid agencies temporarily suspended operations last week due to attacks by armed groups.

Ms Rochdi, a former minister in the Moroccan government, who was UN aid coordinator in Cameroon prior to arriving in CAR a few weeks ago, spoke to Cristina Silveiro.
