World "sleepwalking" to preventable disease disaster: WHO

The world is “sleepwalking towards disaster” because of preventable illnesses such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes, which kill 40 million people a year.
That’s the message from World Health Organization Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, who’s stepping down after 10 years in the post.
At WHO, the person leading the push against these so-called non-communicable diseases is Dr Doug Bettcher; he told Daniel Johnson what’s at stake.
