Media critical to development and peace in Afghanistan: UN official

Without freedom of the press, an “informed and engaged” public would not be possible, the head of the UN mission in Afghanistan, UNAMA, said on Wednesday.
Tadamichi Yamamoto was speaking at an event in the capital, Kabul, marking World Press Freedom Day, observed annually on 3 May.
He also underlined the critical role of journalists in the country’s development and making progress towards lasting peace and stability.
