Must “act now” to tackle education crisis with new financing: Gordon Brown

A ground-breaking International Finance Facility for education is vital to ensure that half of the world’s children don’t miss out on the basic schooling needed to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

That’s the view of the UN Special Envoy for Global Education, Gordon Brown, who said on Wednesday that “education has been neglected for too long” and it was time to “act now” to create a new Financing Compact between developed and developing countries.

He told Matthew Wells that in light of on-going attacks on children in Syria, an inquiry was needed into the protection of children in conflict, which would also look at the case for a new International Children’s Court.
