A surge in the number of child suicide bombers in the Lake Chad region may signify a change in tactics by guerrilla insurgents Boko Haram, the UN said on Wednesday.

UN Children’s Fund, (UNICEF) announced the development after publishing new data showing that 27 youngsters died in suicide attacks in the first three months of the year, compared with nine in the same period in 2016.

Eight in 10 of the victims were girls.

And as spokesperson Christophe Boulierac explains to Daniel Johnson, the abuse reflects a far wider humanitarian problem that requires more international assistance.
