There needs to be a “paradigm shift” towards understanding that people living with Down syndrome have the right and the ability to work and engage in communities, a Down syndrome advocate has said.

Andrew Boys is Director of Down Syndrome International.

He has a brother with Down syndrome, a genetic disorder that is associated with growth delays and mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.

Mr Boys spoke at UN Headquarters on Tuesday, in recognition of World Down Syndrome Day, marked each March 21.

Lucy Dean asked him about the barriers people with Down syndrome face to participating fully in society.
