Human rights? It’s personal, Guterres tells Council

The denial of human rights is a disease which is spreading “north, south, east and west”, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said on Monday.
Addressing the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the UN chief said that its Member States could be part of the cure, by upholding the rights of all people and all states.
Mr Guterres also explained his personal connection to human rights, having grown up under Portugal’s Salazar dictatorship.
