More than seven million people in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin could remain “trapped in cycles of severe hunger” if farmers there do not get the support they need, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has warned.

Humanitarians are meeting in Oslo this Friday to mobilize funds to address the regional crisis generated by the Boko Haram insurgency.

FAO and the World Food Programme (WFP) are working together to provide displaced people, or IDPs, and the communities hosting them, with food aid as well as seeds, tools and fertilizers so they can grow crops.
