Humanitarians are meeting in Oslo this Friday to address a crisis which they say has reached grave proportions: the suffering of millions in Nigeria and the Lake Chad region at the hands of Boko Haram militants.

The group’s violent operations, including suicide bombings and raids, have caused death, destruction and displacement in four countries, with 10 million people in the worst-affected areas now needing life-saving assistance.

Edward Kallon, the Resident Coordinator in Nigeria for the UN Development Programme (UNDP), is participating in the Oslo conference which the UN is co-hosting.

On the line from the Norwegian capital, he spoke to Dianne Penn about the extent of the crisis in Nigeria, and what UNDP hopes to achieve at the meeting.
