More than 460,000 children in Yemen are “at high risk of death” due to severe and acute malnutrition, according to a senior official with the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Dr Sherin Varkey, UNICEF Acting Representative in the country, says youngsters are bearing the brunt of two years of conflict between government forces and rebels.

UNICEF reports that child malnutrition rates in Yemen have risen nearly 200 per cent since 2014.

May Yaacoub asked Dr Varkey about the extent of the nutrition crisis.
