Yemen’s entire health system is “on the brink of collapse” according to the World Health Organization (WHO), which is deploying medical teams to help thousands of newly displaced civilians.

WHO Spokesperson in the country, Tarik Jašarević, said that after nearly two years of escalating conflict between government forces and Houthi rebels, 17 per cent of Yemen’s health facilities are completely non-functional.

Violent conflict in recent days in the coastal region around Al-Mokha City has driven around 8,000 people from their homes, and WHO teams are providing emergency care and supplies.

Jerome Longué asked Mr Jašarević for more details.
