Improving mental health across the world is one of the “foundations” for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

That’s the view of Dessima Williams, Special Adviser for Implementation of the SDGs in the office of the President of the General Assembly, who spoke at a meeting about tackling mental illness on Wednesday.

The event at UN Headquarters in New York, discussed the newly launched campaign by New York City that aims to address mental health challenges in implementing the 2030 Agenda.

At least one in five adult New Yorkers is likely to experience a mental health disorder, the meeting heard.

Ms Williams explained to Andita Listyarini the kind of policies highlighted by the campaign which could be useful to Member States.
