Gender equality must be the “benchmark” for measuring progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the 17 global targets aimed at bringing about a more just world for people everywhere.

That’s the opinion of the head of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), Dr Babatunde Osotimehin, speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum taking place this week in Davos, Switzerland.

He said if women and men are given equal voice in society, “we actually are going to move considerably forward.”
