The world has a “moral responsibility” to assist climate-vulnerable countries, the head of the Lebanese delegation at the recent UN climate conference in Marrakech has urged.

These 47 “frontline” nations that are disproportionately affected by the warming of the planet formed an international partnership in 2009 named the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVM).

The UN’s nuclear agency, IAEA, has called for a “radical shift” in the energy sector to limit the global rise in temperature at 1.5 degree Celsius.

If temperatures stay at that level Lebanon’s Vahakn Kabakian told Basma Baghall, then the burden on CVM countries would be reduced by 90 per cent.

He began by hailing the progress achieved during Marraketch negotiations also known as COP22.
