The present situation in Afghanistan is hopeful but also presents "formidable challenges", the UN special envoy to the country has said.
Tadamichi Yamamoto who is also the head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) made the remarks during his briefing to the Security Council on Wednesday.
In the past 15 years, the war-torn country has made progress but has a long way to go overcome the obstacles brought on by 40 years of war.
