Mobile phones and the internet can be key survival tools for refugees around the world, the UN says, but it’s found that many still do not have access to either.

In rural areas the problem is much worse, UN Refugee Agency UNHCR warns, with data from 44 countries on four continents showing that only one in five refugees has smart phone coverage.

Solutions to the problem are being explored and could come from the private sector, as the agency’s John Chiahemen explains to Daniel Johnson.
