Without peace between the new government and ethnic groups in Myanmar there will be “no future” for the country, according to the UN independent expert on human rights there.

Special Rapporteur Yanghee Lee, was speaking during what’s been billed as an historic five-day peace summit taking place in Myanmar, known as the 21st Century Panglong Conference.

Designed to help end decades of ethnic conflict, it’s the first major conference to be held since Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy won a landslide election victory in March.

Matthew Wells asked Ms Lee what was at stake.
