Africa should avoid debt and find new ways to finance its development, a new report by the UN trade and development agency (UNCTAD) has warned.

Launched on Thursday, the report suggests using money sent home by migrants, also known as remittances, which reached US$63.8 billion in 2014.

That’s more than the continent has received in terms of foreign aid and direct investment, according to the author of the report, Junior Roy Davis Ediar.

He sat down with Assumpta Massoi on the margins of the 14th UN Conference on Trade and Development in Nairobi, Kenya.
