Fighting between rival forces has been continuing on Monday in South Sudan’s capital, Juba.

This follows several days of deadly clashes that began ahead of the country’s fifth independence anniversary on Saturday.

This latest turn of events comes despite a 2015 peace agreement and the formation of a unity government aimed at ending more than two years of conflict which has forced thousands of citizens to flee to UN facilities known as protection of civilian sites, or POCs.

Chaloka Beyani, a professor of International Law, is the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons, or IDPs.

Dianne Penn asked Mr Beyani for his reaction to the latest developments in the world’s youngest country.
