For the first time in four years, food aid has reached the besieged Syrian town of Darayya, the World Food Programme (WFP) has reported.

A joint convoy from the UN and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent on Thursday delivered boxes of basic food supplies such as rice, lentils and vegetable oil for about 2,400 people in the suburb of the capital, Damascus.

The nine trucks also carried enough wheat for the entire population, or roughly 4,000 people, in addition to medical and health items.

WFP regional spokesperson Abeer Atefa, who is based in Egypt, told May Yaacoub about the “very difficult stories” families shared with their staff on the ground.
