Nearly 100 million boys and girls worldwide between the ages of five and 19-years-old work in farming, forestry or fishing.

That startling statistic comes from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) which has joined with the International Labour Organization (ILO) in efforts to stamp out child labour in agriculture.

The two UN agencies have developed an e-learning course aimed at ensuring that anti-child labour measures are incorporated in agricultural and rural development programmes.

It is being launched in connection with the World Day Against Child Labour, observed on Sunday, 12 June.

Sandra Ferrari has been speaking to Bernd Seiffert, a rural livelihoods and local institutions officer at FAO, to learn how the course will benefit these young workers.
