The first-ever global report on wildlife crime shows the need to criminalize not only poachers and those behind the illicit trade but also the people who demand its products.

That’s according to Yuri Fedetov, head of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) which published the study.

Wildlife crime refers to the illegal exploitation of the world’s wild animals and plants.

The UN agency says it is closely linked to money-laundering, corruption, murder and even terrorism.

Mr Fedetov told Liudmila Blagonravova that no country was fully immune.
