It’s estimated that one-third of food produced worldwide is either lost or wasted even as 800 million people globally go hungry.

The first Global Standard to measure and manage this challenge has been released by an international partnership that includes the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Robert VanOtterdijk is an agro-industry officer at FAO headquarters in Rome.

Dianne Penn asked him what is behind this loss and waste of food, which costs the world up to US$940 billion each year.
