Visitors from all walks of life come to the UN, but chances are there’s probably never been one made out of plastic and wearing trainers, jeans and a hoody.

The lifelike human model is called Sophia, and she’s the brainchild of UN agency UNECE, the Economic Commission for Europe.

She’s been unveiled for World Environment Day marked annually on 5 June to raise awareness about plastic pollution and the threat it poses to wildlife, as UNECE’s Lucica Matei tells Daniel Johnson.
