Syrian refugee pressures on Jordan “like a slow-moving tsunami”

The pressure of having more than a million Syrian refugees enter Jordan since 2011, is equivalent to a “slow-moving tsunami”.
That’s according to Jordan’s planning minister, Imad Fakhoury, speaking at the recent International Monetary Fund-World Bank Spring Meetings, in Washington DC.
He said public services were under huge strain, with close to 150,000 extra schoolchildren from Syria now in the system, and a 24 per cent shortage of hospital beds.
After taking part in a seminar on Conflicts and the Refugee Crisis, Mr Fakhoury spoke to Mark Betancourt.
