The Least Developed Countries, or LDCs, must go at a “higher speed” than the rest of the world, and “all too few” of them have managed to graduate from the group so far.

That’s the message from Mogens Lykketoft, the President of the UN General Assembly, speaking on Friday at the opening day of a high-level conference on LDCs in Antalya, Turkey.

The 3-day event is reviewing the progress made towards sustainable development by the 48 countries in the group since the adoption of the Istanbul Plan of Action, five years ago.

Reem Abaza asked Mr Lykketoft to outline the main priorities.
