Support must be “continuous” for Least Developed Countries “graduating”

International support for the 48 Least Developed Countries, or LDCs, needs to extend beyond the point where they “graduate” out of the group.

That’s one of the key messages being delivered by UN Under-Secretary-General Gyan Chandra Acharya, who is heading up a UN conference on LDCs, starting on Friday.

That “continuous” support is one way to ensure that development gains are solidified for the benefit of everyone in countries that no longer qualify as LDCs.

Reem Abaza spoke to Mr Acharya on the eve of the high-level meeting in Antalya, Turkey, to review the progress made towards sustainable development by LDCs.
