Ending the HIV and AIDS epidemic will not be possible without doing more to prevent the world’s 1.8 billion teenagers from being exposed to the disease, the World Health Organization (WHO) believes.

Spearheading the the effort via its #zerodiscrimination online campaign is UNAIDS, the UN agency, whose Special Ambassador for Latin America is Panama’s First Lady, Ms Lorena Castillo de Varela.

Speaking in Geneva at the World Health Assembly, Ms Varela told Daniel Johnson that one of her main goals is empowering girls and women whose rights are often ignored.
