Indigenous people in six countries are piloting a tool to document violations of their rights.

The Indigenous Navigator, which is available online, will be used to gather data which can then be presented to governments and international bodies.

Max Ooft, a Kalinya man and Policy Officer at the Bureau of the Association of Indigenous Village Leaders in Suriname.

The South American country is one of the pioneers for the project, together with Cameroon, Kenya, Nepal, Peru, and Thailand.

Mr Ooft was in New York to participate in the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues which ends on Friday.

Dianne Penn asked him about his expectations for how the data will be used.
