Young indigenous women in the United States need to be better protected under the law.

That’s the opinion of Robin Minthorn, a citizen of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma and a professor of Native American Studies at the University of New Mexico.

Ms Minthorn represented the National Indian Youth Council at this week’s Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues at UN Headquarters in New York.

She spoke to Janie Cangelosi about the challenges facing women and youth and her support of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, also known as UNDRIP.
