The establishment of police stations and other rule of law institutions in Darfur could help internally displaced people (IDPs) to return to their homes.

That’s the assessment of Martin Uhomoibhi, head of the joint African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).

UNAMID’s tasks include protecting scores of civilians fleeing ongoing fighting between Sudanese government forces and various rebel movements.

Mr Uhomoibhi recently travelled in the region to meet displaced people and refugees from neighbouring South Sudan.

Adam Ahmed caught up with him at the end of his visit.
