The ambitious goals that governments have set themselves for tackling climate change and sustainable development are the “absolute bare minimum” the world needs.

That’s the firm and passionate view of the UN Special Adviser on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Climate Change.

David Nabarro was speaking ahead of two days of High Level events at UN Headquarters in New York, which will build on the historic world agreements made at the end of last year.

More than 190 countries committed to keeping carbon emissions below 2 degrees Celsius and that agreement reached in Paris in December, will be officially signed by Member States on Friday.

Matthew Wells asked David Nabarro to describe the importance of Thursday’s debate on how best to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs.
