The world is entering what’s been described as a “new era” in which to take action to reverse damaging rises in the planet’s temperature.

On Friday, world leaders will gather the United Nations in New York to officially sign the Paris Agreement on climate change which was approved by the international community in the French capital last December.

In Paris all countries agreed to work to limit global temperature rise to well below 2 degrees Celsius, and given the grave risks, to strive for 1.5 degrees.

Cassie Flynn, is the Climate Change adviser for the UN Development Programme (UNDP).
