Somalia “on track” to hold first democratic elections in 47 years

Somalia remains “on track” to undergo its first democratic electoral process in 47 years, in what’s been described as a “decisive” year for the Horn of Africa country.
That’s according to Somalia’s president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud , briefing the UN Security Council on Tuesday.
He described the elections which are due to take place by August as “historic” although elections based on universal suffrage are not due until 2020.
