Landmines and other explosive devices that were buried in the ground during conflict continue to kill and maim innocent people, mostly children.
For this reason, the UN has declared 4 April as the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.
The UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) has mounted an exhibition at UN Headquarters that looks at this year’s theme: ‘Mine Action is Humanitarian Action.’
Dianne Penn looked at the photos alongside UNMAS Communications Officer, Lee Woodyear.
He talks about some of the images, starting with one taken in Cyprus.
