Peacekeepers and the Lebanese army need to be “more vigilant” along the border with Syria in the face of a growing threat from the terrorist group ISIL, or Daesh.
That’s according to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon who visited the headquarters of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Thursday, located in the south of the country.
He said he was encouraged at the level of peace and security which had been maintained along the southern border with Israel, since the adoption of Security Council resolution 1701, which was intended to resolve the 2006 conflict between the two countries.
Mr Ban spoke to Andrea Tenenti.
