How can women best contribute to sustainable development? That’s the question being asked at the 60th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) which begins at the United Nations in New York on Monday.
Delegates from across the world are due to spend two weeks discussing the involvement of women and men in realizing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Also known as the SDGs, the goals, which were agreed by world leaders at the UN in September last year, will frame international development over the next 15 years.
Laura Gelbert has been speaking to Brazilian Ambassador Antonio Patriota, Chair of this session of the CSW.
She began by asking him how the SDGs will benefit women and girls.
