The race is on for the new UN Secretary-General and for the first time in the organization’s 70 years of existence people everywhere can get involved.

The UN is encouraging civil society to submit questions which may be put to candidates when they begin meeting with General Assembly President Mogens Lykketoft starting in April.

Susan Alzner heads the New York Office of the UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS).

They’re gathering questions which members of the public can send via Twitter or Instagram using #UNSGcandidates.  Questions can also be submitted online.  The deadline is 27 March.

Dianne Penn asked Ms Alzner how the process came about.
